Atticus Review is happy to announce our third annual Flash Creative Nonfiction Contest, this year judged by Nick Flynn.


 CONTEST SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

  • You may submit one (1) piece of Flash CNF of up to 1000 words for consideration
  • Contest submission fee is $10
  • You may submit multiple times
  • Simultaneous submissions are fine, but if a piece is withdrawn you will forfeit the submission fee
  • Include your name on the cover page, but please do not put your name or identifying information on the pages containing the piece itself
  • Please no submissions from colleagues, former students, or close acquaintances of the Contest Judge


First Prize: $350

Second Prize: $100

Third Prize: $50


Deadline: July 26th, 2020 Midnight Pacific Time
 

Winner Announced: The first or second week of September, 2020.
 

About the Judge: Nick Flynn has worked as a ship's captain, an electrician, and as a case-worker with homeless adults. He is the author of twelve books, including the New York Times best-selling memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City. His most recent books are Stay: threads, conversations, collaborations (ZE Books, 2020) and I Will Destroy You (Graywolf, 2019) a collection of poems. He has received fellowships from (among other organizations): The Guggenheim Foundation, The Fine Arts Work Center, and The Library of Congress. His work has won two PEN prizes, has been a finalist for France's Prix Femina, and has been translated into fifteen languages. Some of the venues his poems, essays, and non-fiction have appeared in include The New Yorker, the Paris Review, and NPR's This American Life. Since 2004 he has spent each spring in residence at the University of Houston, where he is a professor on the Creative Writing faculty, focused on poetry.
